Related StoriesMar 6:Two people shot dead inside Sunnyvale home A Sunnyvale mother killed her 22-year-old son, then herself, in their home, according to public safety officials, who also noted that the son suffered from a "medical condition."

Capt. Dave Verbrugge said Wednesday that the pair were found in the son's bedroom about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in a home in the 800 block of Nectarine Ave.

He did not disclose their names, though he said the mother was in her 50s.

Public records show that Elizabeth Hodgins, 53, lives at 813 Nectarine Ave., with a 22-year-old, George Hodgins. A 51-year-old man also lives at the home.

Some neighbors confirmed the identities.

One neighbor, Heather Jauch, told this newspaper that George was autistic and she didn't see him very much.

"They were very warm and friendly people," Jauch said. "We always waved hi and chit-chatted."

Verbrugge said he did not know why the mother killed her son and then herself. He said the only other person who lived at the home is the woman's husband, who was not home at the time of the murder-suicide.

There hasn't been a killing in Santa Clara County's second biggest city in more than five months.

In September, Sunnyvale police arrested 27-year-old Leticia Serna for killing her son, who was 8 months old. She then tried to jump off a freeway overpass before being rescued by emergency responders and now faces homicide charges.

In June, 46-year-old Maria Esther Orozco was found dumped in a garbage bag on Advertisement a Sunnyvale street after being killed.
